Spacecraft Status

All AIM spacecraft subsystems continue to perform well.  The uplink receiver bitlock was sporadic during the week but we were able to upload all the necessary commands that were scheduled.

Instrument Status

SOFIE continues to operate nominally.  Spacecraft pointing offsets have been uploaded, which will place the SOFIE FOV typically 2-3 arcseconds from sun center.   Improved calibration of FOV offsets, relative science and sun sensor alignment, absolute FOV alignment, and science to sun sensor time offsets were completed and are being implemented in the version 2 processing.

The processing of SOFIE Release 1 data continues; the instrument signals and the resultant retrievals are remarkable consistent.  Testing of the Release 2 software continues even as some additional improvements are being implemented.

Two SOFIE papers were recently accepted for publication in the JASTP special issue:

Gordley, L. L., M. Hervig, C. Fish, J. M. Russell III, S. Bailey, J. Cook, S. Hansen, A. Shumway, G. Paxton, L. Deaver, T. Marshall, J. Burton, B. Magill, C. Brown, E. Thompson, and J. Kemp , The Solar Occultation For Ice Experiment (SOFIE), J. Atmos. Solar-Terr. Phys., in press, 2008.

Hervig, M. E., L. L. Gordley, M. Stevens, J. M. Russell, S. Bailey, and G. Baumgarten, Interpretation of SOFIE PMC measurements: Cloud identification and derivation of mass density, particle shape, and particle size, J. Atmos. Solar-Terr. Phys., in press, 2008.

CIPS continues to operate nominally. All four cameras are returning excellent data.

The CDE Level 2B has finished processing and will be checked and analyzed.  A stim was also performed on the CDE instrument this week.  All operations remain nominal.
